Here's a treat for all the Wearside folk. This weekend we have racked out all the Spring Summer and past seasons stock and knocked the prices down silly (cheaper than sweatshop made high street fodder). Come Monday we will be boxing up anything left and making space for a number of big deliveries due. PLEASE NOTE these reductions are available instore only and not online and with many styles not listed on the site it's worth a look in the shop. Be quick though !

It really excites us here at 56 John Street when a new brand joins our roster of collections. Universal Works is the first of four to arrive, a brand with a strong aesthetic developing an identity for workwear and functional clothing in a very short space of time.

Universal Works is about good honest menswear, it's about quality garments with a great fit. There is no great vision or message, no target markets, just garments for everyone, clothing to look stylish in because you the wearer makes it so, clothing you want to wear, clothing you will look good in.

A lot of deliveries are starting to appear at the steps of 56 John Street, so I think to recap, we will start off with A for Adidas.

This week saw the first dribs and drabs come through for Autumn Winter 2010 season.

Menswear has seen the arrival of Fred Perry Laurel for AW10, with nod towards bold colourways and muted knits. Although this is only the first drop of AW10 collection, shows the direction FPL wants to take from this Spring/Summer clean cut collection.

A Metropolis is defined as, 'A major city; the center of a specific activity. . .', some may think this would be a odd or even bizarre name to give to piece of clothing, but for the CP Company Metropolis jacket, the name fits perfectly.

New Darling summer collection in store now!

This is the second season for Darling at Eleven and the collection is a as strong and gorgeous as ever. The summer collection is an array of dusky blues and greens on vintage inspired tops and dresses that could take you right through to Autumn.

My favourite piece is the Millie floral dress with lace detailing on the hem, perfect for late summer weddings.

Other pieces include a classic stripe vest, a cornflower blue cardi with a bow made out of buttons, and a lace panelled cream smock dress.

The Adidas Spezial is in many ways an underrated piece of footwear. From it's inital conception to it's styling and primary function, everything about the shoe screams simplicity.

Originally called and still referred to by Adidas fanatics as the 'Handball Spezial', the trainer was developed and released in 1979. Designed to be used on the hardcourts of the Handball scene, especially in Eastern Europe where the game had mass appeal. Indeed the Eastern Bloc was a force to be reckoned with in the game after being reintroduced to the Olympic programme during the 1972 Olympics.
